Every WA battery program, with its live status
WA adds $1,300 through the WA Residential Battery Scheme (Synergy customers). Here is each WA program that touches home batteries, checked against its official
source on 13 July 2026.
WA Residential Battery Scheme, Synergy customers
Live $130 per usable kWh, capped at $1,300 (10 kWh)
Point-of-sale rebate for Synergy customers (Perth and the South West grid). Requires joining a Virtual Power Plant with a 2-year commitment. Stacks with the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program: combined value on a 10 kWh battery is about $3,800 today. Around 100,000 rebates are funded, expected to last into 2027.
Eligibility: Owner-occupier Synergy customer; solar PV installed or installed together; usable battery capacity 5–10 kWh (larger batteries still get the capped amount); accredited installer; mandatory VPP participation for 2 years.
WA Residential Battery Scheme, Horizon Power customers
Live $380 per usable kWh, capped at $3,800 (10 kWh)
Larger per-kWh rebate for Horizon Power customers in regional and remote WA. Combined with the federal discount, a 10 kWh battery attracts about $6,300 in stacked support today.
Eligibility: Horizon Power network customer; battery 5–10 kWh usable; VPP enrolment where available.
WA Residential Battery Scheme, no-interest loan
Live 0% loan, $2,001–$10,000
Interest-free loan for the battery purchase alongside the rebate, repaid over up to 10 years.
Eligibility: Household income under $210,000; approved battery under the scheme.
How to claim the WA battery rebate
- Nothing to lodge for the federal discount. Your accredited installer creates the
91 certificates a 13.5 kWh battery earns, assigns
them, and takes the value off the quote before you pay. Check it appears as its own line, worth roughly
$3,631 at this size.
- Confirm the product and the installer. The battery has to be on the Clean Energy Council
approved list, 5 to 100 kWh nominal, paired with new or existing solar, and VPP-capable if you are
on-grid. One claim per premises, ever.
- WA Residential Battery Scheme (Synergy customers). Arranged through your installer or VPP provider at signup rather
than claimed back afterwards, worth $1,300 at
13.5 kWh. Two years of VPP participation is a condition, not an optional extra. Compare the WA VPPs →
- WA Residential Battery Scheme (Horizon Power customers). Worth up to $3,800, but currently open
to Horizon Power network customers in regional and remote WA. If that is you, say so before the quote is written, because it is
delivered through participating retailers and installers rather than claimed back.
- WA Residential Battery Scheme no-interest loan. A real application you make yourself:
interest-free , $2,001 to $10,000.
Get approval before you commit to the install.
- Check the certification date. The rebate rate is fixed by the compliance certificate, so
an install that slips past 1 January 2027 is worth $599 less.

Is a solar battery worth it in WA?
On the numbers, a 13.5 kWh battery in Western Australia costs about $2,869 to $9,569 after $4,931 of rebates, and our savings engine estimates the extra saving from adding it to existing solar at $680 to $830 a year at WA's average $420 quarterly bill. That is roughly a 3 to 14 year payback, before any VPP income. WA uses a regulated, time-of-export feed-in tariff (DEBS): 2c/kWh off-peak and 10c/kWh during the 3–9pm peak for Synergy customers, on the first 50 kWh/day. The case is strongest where you use most of your power after dark; it is weakest if you are out all evening and export everything.
Does the WA Government offer a solar battery rebate in 2026?
Yes. The WA Residential Battery Scheme (Synergy customers) is live: $1,300 on a 13.5 kWh battery ($130 per usable kWh, capped at $1,300). It stacks on top of the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount of about $3,631, for $4,931 off in total. Verified against WA Government, Residential Battery Scheme on 13 July 2026.
How much should a 10kWh battery cost?
Between $7,000 and $13,500 fully installed before rebates, based on the 10 kWh-class models we track (BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS, GoodWe Lynx Home F, sonnenBatterie Evo, Fox ESS EQ4800 (~10 kWh)), priced 13 July 2026. Take off the federal $2,713 and WA's $1,300 and a WA household pays about $2,987 to $9,487. If a quote sits well above that, ask what the battery discount line says and when it was calculated.
Is the solar battery rebate reduction in 2026?
It already happened once and happens again shortly. The federal factor fell from 8.4 to 6.8 STCs per usable kWh on 1 May 2026, and drops to 5.7 on 1 January 2027. On a 13.5 kWh battery that is $3,631 now versus $3,032 after, a difference of $599 for an identical install. The schedule is legislated and keeps stepping down every 1 January and 1 July until the program ends on 31 December 2030. What counts is the certification date, not the day you sign.
How long will a 10kWh battery last?
Two answers. Overnight: a 10 kWh battery covers most of an average WA household's evening and overnight usage, on a bill averaging $420 a quarter ($1,680 a year), which is why 10 to 15 kWh is the size most households land on. Over its life: every battery in our price list carries a 10-year warranty, and the longest-warranted model we track is guaranteed to 10,000 cycles, so plan on 10 to 15 years of useful service with gradual capacity fade.
What are the requirements to qualify for the WA Residential battery Scheme rebate?
You must be an owner-occupier on the Synergy or Horizon Power network, have solar already or installed at the same time, use an accredited installer and an approved battery of 5 to 10 kWh usable capacity, and join a Virtual Power Plant for two years. Synergy customers get $130 per usable kWh capped at $1,300; Horizon Power customers get $380 per kWh capped at $3,800. Larger batteries still qualify, they just stop earning past the cap. An interest-free loan of $2,001 to $10,000 is available alongside it. Source: WA Government, Residential Battery Scheme, verified 13 July 2026.
What does a 10kWh battery cost in WA after both rebates?
A 10 kWh battery is typically $7,000 to $13,500 installed before rebates (BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS, GoodWe Lynx Home F, sonnenBatterie Evo, Fox ESS EQ4800 (~10 kWh), priced 13 July 2026). The federal discount takes $2,713 off and the WA Residential Battery Scheme takes another $1,300 off for Synergy customers, leaving about $2,987 to $9,487. On the Horizon Power network the state share is $3,800 instead, which lands the same battery about $2,500 lower again.
