Yes, it's real. The Small-scale Technology Certificate (STC) scheme is a federal program under the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Act 2000, run by the Clean Energy Regulator. The rebate comes off your invoice at point of sale, so you never receive cash directly, you just pay less for the system. Most state rebates work the same way.

For a 6.6 kW system installed in 2026, the federal STC rebate is worth about $1,546 to $2,101, depending on your STC zone (set by your postcode). The number of certificates is your system size × your zone rating × 5 deeming years for a 2026 install, rounded down, and each one is valued here at $39.65. The deeming period drops by one each 1 January, to 4 years in 2027, and 2030 is the last year with any deeming.

Yes. Programs open in 2026 that stack with the federal rebates include NSW (the PDRS incentive for connecting a battery to a VPP), VIC (Solar Homes panel rebate, up to $1,400 + matching $1,400 interest-free loan, and the hot water rebate), WA (Residential Battery Scheme) and the ACT (Sustainable Household Scheme loan and Home Energy Support rebates). Several big programs closed in 2024 and 2025: each state's rebate page lists what's open and what's closed.

Yes. The federal STC deeming period drops by one year each 1 January: from 5 years in 2026 to 4 in 2027, a 20% cut in the solar rebate at the same STC price, and 2030 is the last year with any deeming. The battery rebate factor also steps down every 1 January and 1 July. Several state programs have already closed, including QLD Battery Booster, NSW Empowering Homes and the VIC Solar Homes battery loan.
