What a battery costs in ACT after the rebate

Four common sizes, with the federal discount, the ACT incentive and what is left to pay. Installed prices are the range across the battery models we track, checked 13 July 2026; rebate figures are computed at today's 6.8 STCs per usable kWh.

Usable capacity Federal rebate ACT incentive Typical installed price Price after rebates
10 kWh $2,713 — $7,000–$13,500 $4,287–$10,787
13.5 kWhmost common $3,631 — $7,800–$14,500 $4,169–$10,869
15 kWh $3,950 — $7,500–$12,500 $3,550–$8,550
20 kWh $4,748 — $10,000–$20,600 $5,252–$15,852

Installed prices are derived from our own brand price table, derived from the models listed below, checked 13 July 2026; they are planning estimates, not quotes. Each range reflects the actual products sold at that size, which is why a value 15 kWh stack can undercut a premium 13.5 kWh all-in-one unit. No single product is sold at 20 kWh, so that row is scaled at $500–$1,029 per usable kWh, from Sungrow SBR HV, BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS, Sigenergy SigenStor, Growatt APX. Federal figures are gross certificate values at the current spot price; installers typically pass through slightly less after certificate admin fees. The ACT rebate falls 1 January 2027

The federal discount is on a legislated staircase, not a sales deadline. Today's factor is 6.8 STCs per usable kWh. On 1 January 2027 it drops to 5.7, taking a 13.5 kWh battery in ACT from $3,631 to $3,032, a difference of $599 for exactly the same install. That single date is why "Is the solar battery rebate reduction in 2026?" is the most common question people ask alongside this one, and it is the question the results page below answers first.

The rate is set by the date on your certificate of electrical compliance, not the day you sign the contract, so a quote taken in December with a January install gets January's rate.

03 · The rebate clock

The battery rebate falls every six months. On a schedule.

This is not marketing pressure, it is legislation. The federal factor is 6.8 STCs per usable kWh until 31 December 2026, drops to 5.7 on 1 January 2027, and keeps stepping down until the program ends in 2030. On a 13.5 kWh battery, that first step alone is worth about $599.

Every ACT battery program, with its live status

ACT adds finance rather than a rebate: Sustainable Household Scheme, 3% interest up to $20,000. Here is each ACT program that touches home batteries, checked against its official source on 13 July 2026.

Sustainable Household Scheme

Live
Loans of $2,000–$20,000 at 3% interest

The ACT's household energy loan covers batteries, hot water heat pumps, EV chargers and efficient heating/cooling, repaid over up to 10 years. The maximum was lifted to $20,000 on 1 July 2026. Note: standalone solar panels are no longer covered; batteries are.

Eligibility: Own or co-own a property in the ACT; able to meet repayments.

Home Energy Support Program

Live
Up to $5,000 in rebates + $10,000 0% loan

Targeted support for concession-holding homeowners: rebates covering 50% of costs up to $2,500 for rooftop solar plus up to $2,500 for electrification upgrades, and an interest-free loan up to $10,000.

Eligibility: ACT owner-occupiers holding an eligible concession card.

How to claim the ACT battery rebate

  1. Nothing to lodge for the federal discount. Your accredited installer creates the 91 certificates a 13.5 kWh battery earns, assigns them, and takes the value off the quote before you pay. Check it appears as its own line, worth roughly $3,631 at this size.
  2. Confirm the product and the installer. The battery has to be on the Clean Energy Council approved list, 5 to 100 kWh nominal, paired with new or existing solar, and VPP-capable if you are on-grid. One claim per premises, ever.
  3. Sustainable Household Scheme. A real application you make yourself: 3% interest , $2,000 to $20,000. Get approval before you commit to the install.
  4. Check the certification date. The rebate rate is fixed by the compliance certificate, so an install that slips past 1 January 2027 is worth $599 less.

ACT battery rebate questions

Is a solar battery worth it in ACT?

On the numbers, a 13.5 kWh battery in the Australian Capital Territory costs about $4,169 to $10,869 after $3,631 of rebates, and our savings engine estimates the extra saving from adding it to existing solar at $690 to $850 a year at ACT's average $433 quarterly bill. That is roughly a 5 to 16 year payback, before any VPP income. No regulated minimum feed-in tariff in the ACT. The case is strongest where you use most of your power after dark; it is weakest if you are out all evening and export everything.

Does the ACT Government offer a solar battery rebate in 2026?

Not a rebate, finance. the Australian Capital Territory lends instead of discounting: the Sustainable Household Scheme offers 3% interest up to $20,000, and batteries qualify. The money off the price is federal: about $3,631 on a 13.5 kWh battery under the Cheaper Home Batteries Program. Verified 13 July 2026.

How much should a 10kWh battery cost?

Between $7,000 and $13,500 fully installed before rebates, based on the 10 kWh-class models we track (BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS, GoodWe Lynx Home F, sonnenBatterie Evo, Fox ESS EQ4800 (~10 kWh)), priced 13 July 2026. Take off the federal $2,713 and a ACT household pays about $4,287 to $10,787. If a quote sits well above that, ask what the battery discount line says and when it was calculated.

Is the solar battery rebate reduction in 2026?

It already happened once and happens again shortly. The federal factor fell from 8.4 to 6.8 STCs per usable kWh on 1 May 2026, and drops to 5.7 on 1 January 2027. On a 13.5 kWh battery that is $3,631 now versus $3,032 after, a difference of $599 for an identical install. The schedule is legislated and keeps stepping down every 1 January and 1 July until the program ends on 31 December 2030. What counts is the certification date, not the day you sign.

How long will a 10kWh battery last?

Two answers. Overnight: a 10 kWh battery covers most of an average ACT household's evening and overnight usage, on a bill averaging $433 a quarter ($1,732 a year), which is why 10 to 15 kWh is the size most households land on. Over its life: every battery in our price list carries a 10-year warranty, and the longest-warranted model we track is guaranteed to 10,000 cycles, so plan on 10 to 15 years of useful service with gradual capacity fade.
