Every QLD battery program, with its live status
QLD has no state battery rebate, so the federal discount is the whole story. Here is each QLD program that touches home batteries, checked against its official
source on 13 July 2026.
Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program
Live ~$271/kWh usable (first 14 kWh, tapering above)
Queensland has no state battery rebate, but the federal program applies state-wide: 6.8 STCs per usable kWh for installs certified through 31 December 2026, worth about 30% off a typical battery.
Eligibility: Battery 5–100 kWh nominal with solar PV (new or existing); VPP-capable if on-grid; accredited installer; one claim per premises.
One Queensland scheme is often mistaken for a battery rebate: Supercharged Solar for Renters pays landlords
to put solar on a tenanted property, with conditional approval required before you buy. It is solar only,
it is claimed by the landlord, and it is not for the home you live in yourself. Detail on the
QLD rebate page.
Closed QLD battery schemes
These still turn up in old articles and ads. They are gone, and here is what happened to each.
Battery Booster Program
Closed Closed 8 May 2024. Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program now applies.
How to claim the QLD battery rebate
- Nothing to lodge for the federal discount. Your accredited installer creates the
91 certificates a 13.5 kWh battery earns, assigns
them, and takes the value off the quote before you pay. Check it appears as its own line, worth roughly
$3,631 at this size.
- Confirm the product and the installer. The battery has to be on the Clean Energy Council
approved list, 5 to 100 kWh nominal, paired with new or existing solar, and VPP-capable if you are
on-grid. One claim per premises, ever.
- Check the certification date. The rebate rate is fixed by the compliance certificate, so
an install that slips past 1 January 2027 is worth $599 less.

Is a solar battery worth it in QLD?
On the numbers, a 13.5 kWh battery in Queensland costs about $4,169 to $10,869 after $3,631 of rebates, and our savings engine estimates the extra saving from adding it to existing solar at $780 to $960 a year at QLD's average $518 quarterly bill. That is roughly a 4 to 14 year payback, before any VPP income. South-east Queensland (Energex network) is deregulated: retailers' best generally available offers run 0–10 c/kWh, with the higher rates usually limited to the first 8–10 kWh you export each day. The case is strongest where you use most of your power after dark; it is weakest if you are out all evening and export everything.
Does the QLD Government offer a solar battery rebate in 2026?
No. Closed 8 May 2024. Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program now applies. That leaves the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program, which applies in full here: about $3,631 off a 13.5 kWh battery, applied by your installer at the point of sale. Verified 13 July 2026.
How much should a 10kWh battery cost?
Between $7,000 and $13,500 fully installed before rebates, based on the 10 kWh-class models we track (BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS, GoodWe Lynx Home F, sonnenBatterie Evo, Fox ESS EQ4800 (~10 kWh)), priced 13 July 2026. Take off the federal $2,713 and a QLD household pays about $4,287 to $10,787. If a quote sits well above that, ask what the battery discount line says and when it was calculated.
Is the solar battery rebate reduction in 2026?
It already happened once and happens again shortly. The federal factor fell from 8.4 to 6.8 STCs per usable kWh on 1 May 2026, and drops to 5.7 on 1 January 2027. On a 13.5 kWh battery that is $3,631 now versus $3,032 after, a difference of $599 for an identical install. The schedule is legislated and keeps stepping down every 1 January and 1 July until the program ends on 31 December 2030. What counts is the certification date, not the day you sign.
How long will a 10kWh battery last?
Two answers. Overnight: a 10 kWh battery covers most of an average QLD household's evening and overnight usage, on a bill averaging $518 a quarter ($2,072 a year), which is why 10 to 15 kWh is the size most households land on. Over its life: every battery in our price list carries a 10-year warranty, and the longest-warranted model we track is guaranteed to 10,000 cycles, so plan on 10 to 15 years of useful service with gradual capacity fade.
How much does a solar battery cost in QLD after the rebate?
A 13.5 kWh battery is typically $7,800 to $14,500 installed before rebates (Tesla Powerwall 3, Sungrow SBR HV, Alpha ESS SMILE5, priced 13 July 2026). Queensland has had no state battery rebate since Battery Booster closed on 8 May 2024, so the federal $3,631 is the whole discount and you pay about $4,169 to $10,869. A 10 kWh battery lands around $4,287 to $10,787.
Who is eligible for the solar battery rebate in Queensland?
Every Queensland household with solar, because the only battery rebate here is the federal one. You need a 5 to 100 kWh nominal battery connected to new or existing rooftop solar, an approved product, an accredited installer, and the battery must be VPP-capable if you are on-grid (joining a VPP is optional). One claim per premises. Queensland's own Battery Booster closed on 8 May 2024 and has not been replaced; Supercharged Solar for Renters is a landlord solar rebate, not a battery one.
