Every VIC battery program, with its live status
VIC has no state battery rebate, so the federal discount is the whole story. Here is each VIC program that touches home batteries, checked against its official
source on 13 July 2026.
There is no open VIC battery program at all. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program applies here in
full, and it is the only money on the table: about $3,631 off a 13.5 kWh battery.
To be blunt about it: Victoria has no battery rebate. Any page telling you otherwise is recycling the
Solar Homes battery loan, which closed in May 2025. The $1,400 Solar Homes rebate is real but it covers
panels only, and since 1 July 2026 it needs a household income under $150,000, so if you are adding panels
at the same time see the VIC solar rebate page.
Closed VIC battery schemes
These still turn up in old articles and ads. They are gone, and here is what happened to each.

How to claim the VIC battery rebate
- Nothing to lodge for the federal discount. Your accredited installer creates the
91 certificates a 13.5 kWh battery earns, assigns
them, and takes the value off the quote before you pay. Check it appears as its own line, worth roughly
$3,631 at this size.
- Confirm the product and the installer. The battery has to be on the Clean Energy Council
approved list, 5 to 100 kWh nominal, paired with new or existing solar, and VPP-capable if you are
on-grid. One claim per premises, ever.
- Check the certification date. The rebate rate is fixed by the compliance certificate, so
an install that slips past 1 January 2027 is worth $599 less.

Is it worth getting a solar battery in Victoria?
On the numbers, a 13.5 kWh battery in Victoria costs about $4,169 to $10,869 after $3,631 of rebates, and our savings engine estimates the extra saving from adding it to existing solar at $730 to $890 a year at VIC's average $470 quarterly bill. That is roughly a 5 to 15 year payback, before any VPP income. Victoria scrapped its regulated minimum feed-in tariff from 1 July 2025; the legal floor is $0.00/kWh. The case is strongest where you use most of your power after dark; it is weakest if you are out all evening and export everything.
Does the VIC Government offer a solar battery rebate in 2026?
No. Closed May 2025. Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program now the primary battery support. That leaves the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program, which applies in full here: about $3,631 off a 13.5 kWh battery, applied by your installer at the point of sale. Verified 13 July 2026.
How much should a 10kWh battery cost?
Between $7,000 and $13,500 fully installed before rebates, based on the 10 kWh-class models we track (BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS, GoodWe Lynx Home F, sonnenBatterie Evo, Fox ESS EQ4800 (~10 kWh)), priced 13 July 2026. Take off the federal $2,713 and a VIC household pays about $4,287 to $10,787. If a quote sits well above that, ask what the battery discount line says and when it was calculated.
Is the solar battery rebate reduction in 2026?
It already happened once and happens again shortly. The federal factor fell from 8.4 to 6.8 STCs per usable kWh on 1 May 2026, and drops to 5.7 on 1 January 2027. On a 13.5 kWh battery that is $3,631 now versus $3,032 after, a difference of $599 for an identical install. The schedule is legislated and keeps stepping down every 1 January and 1 July until the program ends on 31 December 2030. What counts is the certification date, not the day you sign.
How long will a 10kWh battery last?
Two answers. Overnight: a 10 kWh battery covers most of an average VIC household's evening and overnight usage, on a bill averaging $470 a quarter ($1,880 a year), which is why 10 to 15 kWh is the size most households land on. Over its life: every battery in our price list carries a 10-year warranty, and the longest-warranted model we track is guaranteed to 10,000 cycles, so plan on 10 to 15 years of useful service with gradual capacity fade.
How much does it cost to install a solar battery in Victoria?
A 13.5 kWh battery is typically $7,800 to $14,500 fully installed in Victoria before rebates, based on the models we track (Tesla Powerwall 3, Sungrow SBR HV, Alpha ESS SMILE5), priced 13 July 2026. Victoria has no state battery rebate, so the only discount is the federal $3,631, leaving about $4,169 to $10,869 to pay. A 10 kWh battery lands around $4,287 to $10,787 after the federal discount.
Should I get a solar system with a battery before the VIC rebates run out?
The Victorian rebate and the federal one are on different clocks. The $1,400 Solar Homes panel rebate has no announced end date, but since 1 July 2026 it is limited to households earning under $150,000. The federal battery discount is the one with a published countdown: it drops from 6.8 to 5.7 STCs per usable kWh on 1 January 2027, which is about $599 less on a 13.5 kWh battery. Certification date is what counts, not the date you sign, so allow for installer lead times.
